We believe deeply in the power of place. ePodunk launching its first in-depth site, profiling communities across the U.S., in 2001. In August 2005, we expanded to Canada. ePodunk was founded by journalists with years of experience in newspapers, online publishing and demographics: Laurie Bennett was the director of new media and library services at the Detroit Free Press, where she oversaw the launch of five daily Web sites, including the Freep and Auto.com. She is a veteran investigative journalist and a winner of the George Polk Award. Bennett, a native of Dansville, NY, is CEO of ePodunk. Brad Edmondson, a specialist in the effects of population change, is the former editor of American Demographics magazine. Edmondson, a vice president of ePodunk, grew up in Nokomis, FL. John Decker is the former multimedia editor of the New York Times on the Web and former Web designer for the Detroit Free Press. Decker oversees presentation of data and images, post cards and the ePodunk Web site. Port Washington, NY, is his home town. Programming, database design, and application development for both the Web and wireless were done in collaboration with SophiTEC, Inc., of Rochester, NY.
