housing, rooms to rent?
I can provide a few details about Kenogami, having lived there until I was 16. You're correct about the church's name - Sainte Famille. There was another parish in Kenogami called Sainte Cecile, further down (what else) Rue Sainte Famille. With declining attendance Ste. Cecile was closed and rather than battle it out over the name Ste. Famille became Saint Matthieu. The engish Catholic school was called Saint Mary's High School, eventually an elementary school, now closed. There was also a Protestant High school. I would refer you to the"Blueberry Chronicle" (now out of publication) for details. There is also an excellent history of Kenogami; I'll get the info. from my parents. It is the "Bible" of research on English Kenogami. Hope this helps.
See you in August!

I would like to speak to people involved in the history of the Flamborough area. After the war of 1812 during which Sir Isaac Brock was killed, we are told that the king gave Sir Isaac's brother Delisle Brock a large tract of land in the Flamborough/Waterdown area

Visited Kenogami last summer for first time. Was born there in 1943 and only 9 months when my family moved to Toronto. I am in the process of trying to attain information regarding the street we lived on, the school my sisters attended, etc. I believe I was baptised in Ste Famille Church which now appears to be called St Matthieu. Would anyone know why the name of the church was changed. Also across the street from the church there was a small catholic school back in 1943, would any know the name of that school and if it is still there. Any help you could provide would be great. Thanks

I have really fond memories of that year & of all the students in my class. I particularly remember Joanne Gwilliam, Teddy Comfort & his friend Brian & many others. I would love to be in touch with any students who may read this.

I've been living in Red Deer,Alberta for the last 7 years and am still waiting to get back home. Not neccessarily to Port Morien but at least to Nova Scotia. My husband and I have done well here but I'm much like Dorothy. There's no place like home.I keep watch on the job listings and opportunities back there but they are few and far between.I hope that one day we will return as some of my relatives were lucky enough to do.Alberta is a wonderful place and has beautiful scenery but it just doesn't compare to the beauty of Cape Breton.I miss you.Hope I can see you soon.
I grew up in carmanville and i miss it very much!! Its a town that i"ll always call home!!! no matter where you go you won't find friendly people like those from home....

The 30 sites at Ingolf have incorporated to purchase the Inn and property from the previous owners as of Jan.31/2007. This secures the future of these sites for the families that have grown up to love the lake life. The Inn which was open through the summer and on some weekends is now closed for the winter. This business will be reborn this year. So watch for the announcement.
