Kelowna is a city in the province of British Columbia. It is in the Okanagan Valley.
The city name derives from an Okanagan term for "female grizzly bear."
Received national attention for an August 2003 fire which raged on the slopes of Okanagan Mountain, forcing the evacuation of 1,000 homes south of here.
