Calabogie is in Renfrew County, in the province of Ontario. It is on Calabogie Lake.
There are several theories for how this community got its name. One theory claims Calabogie came from the Gaelic word "calladh bogaidh" meaning "marshy shore." Another claims it is derived from the Spanish term "cala boga" which is a body of water in which it is necessary to row. One tradition says the name comes from "callibogus," an alcoholic Newfoundland drink.
