2001 population: 11,604 (Source: Statistics Canada) Brooks is a town in the province of Alberta. The town was named for Noel Edgall (or Noell Edgell) Brooks, railroad engineer.
Starting in the late 1880s, the first non-natives moved into the area.
In the early 1900s, with the hopes of drawing more residents to the area, the Canadian Pacific Railway began constructing various irrigation projects. In the 1970s and 1980s, the oil and gas industry spurred growth in the area.
Filming location for 1992 movie, "Unforgiven" and 1997 movie, "A Simple Wish"
