2001 population: 10,792 (Source: Statistics Canada) Canmore is a town in the province of Alberta. It is in the Bow Valley. The town was named for Malcolm III,a Scottish king also known as Canmore.
The community, established in 1883, got its start as a coal mining town.
Filming location for 1997 movie, "The Edge" and 1999 movie, "Mystery, Alaska" and 2002 movie, "John Q" and 2007 movie, "The Assassination of Jesse James"
Well-known residents have included:
· Chandra Crawford, 2006 Olympics gold medal winner (cross-country skiing - sprint) · Sara Renner, 2006 Olympics silver medal winner (cross country skiing - team sprint) · Sharon Wood, first North American woman to climb Mount Everest
