2001 population: 7,002 (Source: Statistics Canada) Castlegar is a city in the province of British Columbia. It is on the Columbia River. One tradition says the city was named for the Castle Garden immigration center in New York. Another says it was named for a local rock formation.
The town of Castlegar amalgamated with Kinnaird in 1974 to form the current city.
