The neighbourhood is bounded by Burrard Inlet, Boundary Road, Broadway, and Nanaimo Street.
Hastings is located north of 1st Avenue. Sunrise is to the south.
In the 1860s, the government set aside this area for what they anticipated would be a great port city. Gastown to the west, however, became that city.
At the end of the 19th century, the area did develop into a popular vaction spot.
The Pacific National Exhibition, formerly known as the Vancouver Exhibition, got its start here in 1910.
In 1911, the people of the Hastings Townsite decided to join the city of Vancouver. At this time, the area started to develop at a faster rate.
