The area is bounded roughly by Great Northern Way, Clark Drive, 15th Avenue, and Cambie Street.
The area began to grow around the turn of the 20th century, when transportation improvements, including a bridge over False Creek and streetcar service, were made.

In the 1910s the saltwater wetlands of False Creek, stretching from Main Street to Clark Drive were filled in, making way for two railway terminals.

In the 1930s industry in the area expanded even further, to the north of Broadway, resulting in the razing of many homes and a decline in the residential character of Mount Pleasant.
