2001 population: 3,434 (Source: Statistics Canada) "Sunflower Capital of Canada" Altona is a town in the province of Manitoba. It is in the Pembina Valley. The town was named for a community in Germany.
The area was settled by Ukrainian Mennonites in the late 19th century.
Local landmarks include a huge replica of Van Gogh's painting, "Sunflowers."
