2001 population: 13,256 (Source: Statistics Canada) "Hub of the North" Thompson is a city in the province of Manitoba. It is on the Burntwood River. The city was named for John Fairfield Thompson, mining company chairman.
The community developed after nickel ore was discovered here in 1956.
