Campobello Island is in the province of New Brunswick. It is in the Bay of Fundy. The community was named for Lord William Campbell, governor of Novia Scotia.
Former and merged community names include:
· Campo Bello
Businessmen from New York and Boston bought up much of the southern end of the island in the 1880s and developed it as a luxury resort.
Franklin D. Roosevelt spent many summers here, at a 34-room residence that is now within the international park. It was after Roosevelt swam in the cold Bay of Fundy that he contacted the polio virus.
