2001 population: 107,341 (Source: Statistics Canada) Chatham-Kent is a city in the province of Ontario. It is on the Thames River. One tradition says Chatham was named for the community in England.
Chatham-Kent was formed in 1998 through the amalgamation of the former city of Chatham, Kent County and the municipalities within the county.
While in Chatham, abolitionist John Brown planned his raid on Harpers Ferry, WV, and organized a provisional government that would outlaw slavery.
