"Uranium capital of the world" Ellerslie-Bideford is a city in the province of Ontario.
The nuclear arms race of the 1950s generated great demand for uranium mined in the region. The province developed this townsite to serve the miners and mining companies. The boom ended in 1959, when the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission decided to purchase all its supplies from U.S. sources.
