2001 population: 28,143 (Source: Statistics Canada) Fort Erie is a town in the province of Ontario. It is on the Niagara River, across from Buffalo, NY.

Sixteen hundred Fenians, planning to conquer Canada in order to trade it with Britain for a free Ireland, came ashore here in 1866. They were repulsed, but only after they defeated two small Canadian forces.
