Galt is in the province of Ontario. It is on the Grand River. The community was named for John Galt, founder of Guelph.
Former and merged community names include:
· Schade's Mill
Galt merged in 1973 with the towns of Preston and Hespeler, and and parts of the townships of Waterloo and North Dumfries, to form the city of Cambridge.
