Ingersoll is a town in Oxford County, in the province of Ontario. It is on the Thames River.

Some say the community was named for Major Thomas Ingersoll, who came to the area after the government promised him money to settle there.

In 1857, a rumor circulated that a large alligator-like monster was in the village pond. Approximately 10,000 people came to see what turned out to be the stuffed carcass of a cow.
