2001 population: 144,738 (Source: Statistics Canada) Oakville is a town in the province of Ontario. It is on Lake Ontario. The community was named for the local industry of oak barrel stave manufacturing.
Former and merged community names include:
· Sixteen Mile Creek
The current town was formed in 1962, with the amalgamation of the village of Bronte and township of Trafalgar.
Filming location for 1994 movie, "The Ref" and 1994 movie, "The Santa Clause" and 2006 movie, "Hollywoodland"
