St. Catharines is a city in the province of Ontario.

The community was named for Catharine Askin Robertson, wife of merchant Robert Hamilton.

Shipbuilding and the manufacturing of domestic goods have been large parts of local economy.

Received national attention for the 1974 car crash near here which killed hockey player Tim Horton. Authorities reported that Horton had been driving his sports car at rates exceeding 100 mph when he crashed on the QEW.
Filming location for 1995 movie, "Canadian Bacon" and 1983 movie, "A Christmas Story"
