Prince Edward Island is a province of Canada.
The province was named for Prince Edward, Duke of Kent.
Capital: Charlottetown
Setting for "Anne of Green Gables," by Lucy Maud Montgomery. The stories of the loquacious redhead, Anne Shirley, have spawned a major tourist industry on the island.
Access to the island improved in 1997, with completion of the Confederation Bridge.
